Every year Greyhounds As Pets gets bigger and bigger and 2016 was no exception! Our program had its best year on record for adoptions, community awareness and media coverage. We thought we would take a look back on the highlights of last year before we look forward to an even more successful 2017.
This year we held more Adoption Days than ever before! We travelled far and wide to many locations within NSW including Kellyville, Newcastle, Chatswood and Wollongong, but our Wentworth Park day was by far our most successful.
With plenty of media coverage leading up to the event, hundreds of people descended on Glebe to meet and greet with the 40 greyhounds we had on hand and to find out more information about the breed and our program.
After a long and busy day for our volunteers, 39 greyhounds found a new home, while Kelsey the last remaining greyhound found a foster home!
We have plenty more Adoption Days planned for 2017, so make sure to keep an eye on our calendar for all the details. You can find our calendar here.
The Living Room Appearance
While there was plenty of media coverage for Greyhounds As Pets last year, the highlight was when we featured on the highly successful Channel 10 show ‘The Living Room’.
Some our gorgeous GAP graduates cuddled up to hosts Amanda Keller and Bondi Vet Dr. Chris Brown who discussed what great pets greyhounds make!
We were super excited by the great promotion of both our program and the greyhound breed.
You can still view the segment here – https://tenplay.com.au/channel-ten/the-living-room/season-5/episode-37
The biggest achievement of all last year for Greyhounds As Pets was the successful adoptions of over 450 greyhounds. Plenty of beautiful hounds found their new furever homes and we were privileged to be involved in helping families welcome a new furry member.
Here are just a few of the faces we helped to re-home this year!
As always, the aim for next year is to improve our program even more. There will be lots of hard work and challenges, but we keep going thanks to constant the encouragement of all our supporters and adopters.
