How often should greyhounds bathe?

The good news is greyhounds are a low maintenance breed. They don’t have an undercoat, shed very little and don’t have the usual ‘doggy’ smell.

For this reason, greyhounds only need to be washed every 3 months.

Here are some easy steps to follow when bathing your grey:

1.     Use the bathtub or shower and place a non-slip mat on the floor to keep them from slipping and sliding.
2.     Use an appropriate shampoo as greyhounds can have sensitivity to strong shampoos and scents. Your pet store can help recommend a shampoo for you.
3.     Ensure you clean their ears with cotton balls, using an ear cleaning solution (also available from the pet shop).
4.     Use a flannel or cloth to watch their face
5.     Use a grooming brush or mitt to remove any excess hair and dirt under their coat
6.     Clean their teeth to keep their teeth and gums healthy
7.     Finally, use a large towel to dry them off from top to bottom.

As part of your grooming routine you should also:

·         Brush your greyhounds' teeth at least 3 times a week (which is the minimum recommendation to help remove plaque and prevent tartar accumulation).
·         Ensure their toenails are trimmed (you can get electric files if your dog has adverse reactions to getting their nails trimmed)
·         Brush their coat with a dog brush or mitt once a week.
